Inspiring Acts of Kindness and Gratitude

Marathon runner Shariah Weekes is encouraging her community to do good instead of raising money for a good cause. By the time she crossed the finish line after 26.2 miles, her friends and followers had a positive impact with more than 100 acts of kindness.

Inspired by GGSC's Science of Happiness course, Week is committed to encouraging kindness beyond direct engagement. Inspired by the practice of gratitude, Ms. Liang created a thank you tree and sent thank you notes to those who were well received. After learning how to write a thank you note, Joan Tomhuff created happiness by texting her daughter every day, telling her he was grateful.

Happiness research holds great promise for practices like gratitude and mindfulness. Recognizing that everyone faces challenges, the curriculum supports all perspectives and fosters relationships. A 62-year-old student found that by trying to resolve conflicts, relationships become more honest and open. Other students know that this is no longer an argument.
