NASA's Lucy probe, hurtling through space at a staggering speed of 10,000 mph, made a startling revelation during its encounter with the asteroid Dinkinesh. Initially believed to be a single half-mile wide (790 meters across) asteroid with a smaller 720-foot wide (220 meters) satellite orbiting it, further analysis has astounded scientists. Upon closer inspection, they discovered that the seemingly smaller asteroid is, in fact, a contact binary—two smaller objects intricately touching each other. This unexpected finding, captured in an image taken from 1,010 miles (1,630 km) away, showcases Dinkinesh on the left and the fascinating contact binary on the right, challenging our understanding of celestial formations. #LucyMission
